Explore the so-called Disney palace that’s somehow even more breathtaking in real life than in photos: the Pena Palace.

Climb into the back of one of a sweet Portuguese-made ex-military 4WDs and bounce along century-old forest roads for an unforgettable half-day journey. You’ll drive by historic palaces (Sintra National Palace, Seteais Palace, Monserrate and Quinta da Regaleira) and the 8th-century Moorish Castle, sharing the best legends, stories and facts about each along the way. But best of all you’ll stop to stroll through the stunning Pena Palace. Here you’ll snap photos with the famous red-and-yellow palace of your Instagram dreams.

Sintra is a magical, mysterious place to embrace with your whole heart – and they say the fastest way to a man’s heart is through the stomach. So, you won’t leave without tasting the town’s traditional sweet “travesseiro” pastry and homemade “ginja” liqueur.

This half-day journey finishes at 1.30pm. You can choose to be dropped in town with some lunch suggestions or back to the train station. If you have the time, combine this with a sunset tapas hike to a secret beach in the afternoon.
